Winemaking starts in the vineyard

Hudson Vineyards lies in Napa Valley’s Carneros District, one of the finest winegrowing regions in the world. The cooling breezes off the Bay of San Francisco allow the grapes a longer hang time in which to develop flavor and intensity, without sacrificing acidity and true balance.

This site was originally known as Talcoa Vineyards, an Indian name meaning ‘laughing land.’ It was on these lands in the 1880’s that the first successful, American scientific experiments were performed to overcome phylloxera, the pest devastating the vineyards of Europe.

As in all agricultural endeavors, each and every vintage provides its own set of opportunities and challenges. We farm each vineyard to fully capture the different nuances and specific characteristics of each growing year.

Every hand-hewn bottle of Hudson Wine expresses the focus of our work in the vineyards; growing the finest wines possible by seeking complexity and distinction of vintage over intensity.

Hudson Wines’ winemaking team is a long-standing collaboration between Lee and Cristina Hudson, Consulting Winemaker John Kongsgaard, and Production Winemaker Christopher Vandendriessche. These wines are made by hand, a true expression of each season’s challenges and gifts.


2017 Grenache Rosé

Our Grenache Rosé is a true direct to press, barrel aged wine for immediate quaffing or for aging. The "Old Spring Vineyard" 20 year old heritage vines produces a sublime rosé with fresh peach and strawberry aromas. It is a mouth filling, thirst quenching experience like biting into a Granny Smith apple. It whispers spring is coming and get ready for summer. 


2017 Aleatico

Aleatico is a Corsican black muscat variety once the favorite wine of Napoleon Bonaparte. We've put a new twist on it by making it a dry aromatic white wine. Honey in color, with a full range aromatics including nutmeg, ripe peaches and honeysuckle. Pleasantly dry and crisp. It is approachable and must be tasted to be believed.


2017 White Study

Now in its 5th rendition, White Study continues to evolve into an ever more sophisticated wine of earthy minerality balanced by hints of apple blossom and spring herbs. The flavors are round, smooth and refreshing while maintaining their upright and angular nature. It is an accessible white wine with charm and style. Onwards and Upwards. 


2016 Grenache "Pick Up Sticks"

After 20 years of making Pick Up Sticks I believe we've done our best work to date with the 2016, Grenache in the raw. It captures fresh plum and strawberries layered with forest floor, leather and spice that Grenache expresses best. It finishes with finesse, mature fine tannins resulting in a medium bodied long finish. It makes me think of BBQ ribs and other savory dishes; Pick Up a Drum Stick. 


2015 Chardonnay

Our Chardonnay winemaking protocol employs a slow and spontaneous fermentation process that lasts 12 to 14 months.  A total of 19 months were spent in 80% new oak culminating in a cerebral wine of concentration and poise.

2015 Syrah

A light Syrah crop in the vineyard in 2015 led to unparalleled concentration and skin ripeness.  In an effort to maintain elegance gentle extraction was critical in the cellar.  The Syrah was bottled after spending a total of 20 months in French Oak.

Black olives, fresh blackberries, iron minerality, fire roasted meats, fennel, structured and densely concentrated. 


2014 Old Master

Block D at Hudson is our prized source for the Old Master.  Cabernet Franc was specifically planted to the volcanic soil series in the north and Merlot to the heavier clay series to the south.  A total of 20 months were spent in the cellar before bottling where minimal intervention was used.  This wine has been bottle aged an additional 14 months prior to release.

Olive Oil

2017 Titi's Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Our limited availability olive oil is vibrant and green, with strong notes of crushed green herbs and a spicy finish. We recommend using this oil to create lively salad dressings, to roast summer vegetables with, or to add as a final topping to almost any meal.




Aged Red Wine Vinegar

Pipina's Barrel Aged Red Wine Vinegar is bright and flavorful with beautiful notes of cherries and has layers of flavor. It is an extremely versatile vinegar and should be used liberally.
